Canadian schools look to recruit Bermudians

The benefits for Bermudians studying at top Canadian boarding schools will be explained in a recruitment fair to be held on the Island next week.

The event, organised by Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), will offer families an opportunity to meet with representatives from 14 schools — all boys, all girls, co-ed, urban, rural across Canada.

It will take place at Pier 6 on Front Street on October 8 from 5pm to 8pm.

A CAIS press release claimed that Canadian schools had returned some of the highest exam results among English-speaking nations in maths, science and reading.

“The latest PISA results, released in 2013 by the OECD, place Canada far ahead of the UK and the USA — and all other primarily English-speaking nations — in student performance in all three disciplines” added the release.

“Some schools offer the IB programme, others offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and all offer a range of arts, athletics, community service, and leadership programmes.”

Canadian boarding schools are home to students from over 100 countries.
