Dominique Mayho and Nicole Mitchell will lead Bermuda’s team at the Elite Caribbean Championships in Puerto Rico next month.

Darren Glasford, Mark Hatherley, Che’quan Richardson and Zoenique Williams will join Mayho and Mitchell, who represented Bermuda at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The two-day event, starting on October 11, will be held in Ponce, which hosted the Central American and Caribbean Championships in 1993.

At last year’s Elite Caribbean Championships, Williams and Mitchell finished second and third in the road race.

The top three finishers in the women’s race will qualify for next summer’s Pan American Games in Toronto.

Mayho stepped up his preparations for the Championships with a ninth-place finish at the Pensacola Classic in Florida this month.

“I’ve been training a lot to get fit for the Caribbean Championships.

“I would really like to finish in the top ten and stay with the big guns,” Mayho told The Royal Gazette.

In the men’s road race, there are six Pan Am Games spots up for grabs.

Gabriella Arnold will head an eight-member team to represent Bermuda at the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships in Suriname this weekend. The team also includes Erica Hawley and Tristan Narraway in the 15-18 female category.

The male members are split into two groups, 15-16 and 17-18, with Justin Ferreira and Daniel Oatley in the older group and Shomari Steede, Christian Oatley and Tyler Smith in the younger category.
