Businessman Darrell fined

Businessman Harold Darrell has been fined in Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to failing to provide insurance for his staff at Designer Flowers.

Darrell, who has been embroiled in a long-standing legal battle against HSBC Bank — which he has accused of institutionalised racism — had denied the charge at an earlier appearance.

Eight staff at the business were said to be affected, along with their spouses and himself.

According to prosecutor Garrett Byrne, Darrell was also accused of failing to notify his employees that they didn’t have insurance between March 31, 2011 and July 11, 2013.

Darrell, 59, of Cedar Avenue, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to both charges. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $300 for the first matter and $500 for the second.
