Power cut hits Smith’s

About 400 Smith’s homes went without electricity for several hours last night following a power cut.

Traffic lights at the busy Collectors Hill junction were also put out of action by the outage, caused after two overhead cables burned out at around 7.30pm.

Those cables were repaired by Belco crews and power was restored — briefly.

Shortly after, a second fault, believed to be underground, cut power to about 160 homes in the area.

A Belco spokesman said the initial outage was caused when a palm leaf brought the two overhead cables into contact with each other.

Belco crews were still working on the fault when The Royal Gazette went to press last night.
