Hospital fund gets $3m boost

The campaign to fund the hospital’s new Acute Care Wing has been given a $3 million boost by Arch Capital Group and the XL Group.

The joint donation was the latest contribution to the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust’s (BHCT) Why it Matters campaign, which seeks to raise $40 million for the initial payment towards the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project.

As a result of the donation, the Acute Care Wing’s 1,232.5 square foot reception lobby has been named the Arch XL Reception Lobby.

Chairman, president and CEO of Arch Capital Group Dinos Iordanou said: “Healthcare is critically important to every community. It is important to all of our employees and every person who resides in Bermuda.

“We are delighted that we were able to contribute to the Why it Matters campaign in order to make their vision a reality.”

XL Group CEO Mike McGavick meanwhile noted that KEMH is the Island’s only medical hospital, stressing the need for it to remain a state of the art facility, equipped to meet the needs of the public.

A press statement said the two-story lobby included a waiting area with a large information monitor to inform visitors of hospital services, rules and regulations. The lobby will soon also include an outpatient pharmacy, ATM machines, the Hospitals Auxiliary Board Gift Shop and a wellness promotion area.

BHCT Chairman Philip Butterfield said: “Arch Capital Group and XL Group have moved our campaign closer towards our goal. We are truly gratified by this act of generosity which demonstrates their commitment to our community.”
