Officially open: Bishop Vernon Lamb (left) helps Albert and Theresa Simons celebrate the grand opening of the new ATS LED Suppliers showroom

An energy-saving lighting business that started off being run from the home of its Bermudian owners yesterday opened a showroom in Paget to meet increasing demand.

Albert and Theresa Simons, who launched ATS Electrical Suppliers in September 2010 as a home-based business, yesterday officially opened their doors to their new LED Showroom, ATS LED Suppliers at 2 Lovers Lane, in the Paget Dry Cleaners building.

In a statement, Mr and Mrs Simons said: “We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of our new modern LED Showroom in Paget, which is the first of its kind in Bermuda.”

Bishop Vernon Lamb of the First Baptist Church on North Shore Road, blessed the new business and wished the owners much success.

Bishop Lamb remarked that he had blessed numerous businesses over the years and was confident that their business would be a success noting, that their business was “needed in Bermuda”.

A happy customer, Steve Thomson, president of Mailboxes Unlimited, said switching to LED lights reduced his Belco bill by $300 and added that he was happy to support the Simons’ business.

Fellow entrepreneur and neighbour, Barbara Spence owner of Designer Balloons, provided the decor for the opening and added that she was happy to be able to support the opening of their new businesses.

BEDC finance director Ray Jones and Jamillah Lodge, BEDC business development officer, attended the opening and offered to provide business support as needed. Mrs Lodge commented that “the showroom was beautiful”. Most of the work was done by Mr Simons. She continued: “This is an excellent example of how a business can bootstrap its way to opening.” Mrs Lodge offered that if any additional assistance is needed in the future, BEDC is committed to their business success.”

ATS Electrical Suppliers changed its name to ATS LED Suppliers in June 2014 to highlight its products, which the company says meet all standards for energy efficient and environmentally friendly lighting.

“Our mission at ATS is to educate customers on the advantages and benefits of LEDs, in comparison to incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs, while cutting cost on their electricity bill,” the company added in a statement.

“Our vision is to become the Island’s leaders in the release of new and improved LED bulbs and fixtures on an ongoing basis and to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of our customers.”

LED is simply an acronym for light-emitting diode; a semiconductor diode that emits visible light when an electric current passes through it. LED bulbs and fixtures use less power, have longer lifetime, and produce little heat, when compared to conventional ones.
