The impending arrival of Hurricane Gonzalo forced a quick travel change for the PGA of America and its staff.

With flights booked for today and tomorrow back to the United States, the organisation, along with Turner Broadcasting, which televised the Grand Slam this week, took the decision to charter a flight for last night.

The 168-seat aircraft left the Island at 9.30pm fully loaded, and the two groups spent yesterday afternoon after the tournament’s conclusion packing up as much of their equipment as possible.

A PGA official confirmed that it plans on returning in the next ten days to complete the job.

Players and their friends and families also made hasty exits, with Bubba Watson racing to catch a 5pm flight after his play-off defeat by Martin Kaymer.
