Convergence 2014 will go — despite wrecked tent venue

Raising the tent structure at Pier Six for Convergence 2013. Blown down by Fay, event organisers say it will be replaced for the 2014 event.

Organisers say next month’s Bermuda Convergence 2014 will go ahead, despite storm damage to the tent that was intended to host it.

The tent fixed to the roof of Pier Six which provided the conference with space in which to hold the event, was demolished during the tropical weather systems of the past two weeks.

However, event organisers Whitfield Group Ltd’s president, Suzie Pewter, announced: “After the unfortunate destruction of the Pier Six iconic structure due to tropical storm Fay, we are pleased to announce that an identical structure is on its way to Bermuda and will be installed by November 5, well in advance of the Bermuda Convergence 2014 event.”

A press release making the announcement also included an assurance to overseas attendees that LF Wade International airport have resumed operations and the Island’s hotels have not reported serious damage.

Greg Wojciechowski, president and chief executive officer of the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) and an ILS Bermuda committee member, said: “We wish to confirm to our local and international colleagues who plan to attend Bermuda Convergence 2014, that the event will proceed as planned and for those that will be travelling to join us, that we look forward to welcoming you all back to Bermuda.

“This is a testament to Bermuda’s solid infrastructure and commitment of all Bermuda’s stakeholders to get the country back up and running as quickly as possible to ensure as little commercial interruption as possible.

“Bermuda is open for business. It was impressive how well and quickly Bermuda responded, which is a testament to the country’s preparedness and organisation in crisis management situations and disaster recovery efforts”.

The inaugural Convergence networking event last November at Pier Six was attended by over 280 delegates from 13 different countries.

Bermuda Convergence 2014 event will take place on November 12 and 13 and hopes to attract leading industry professionals including investors, fund managers, global insurance and reinsurance companies and professional service partners.

“The Bermuda Convergence 2014 event and website will showcase why Bermuda is the leading centre for global risk management and the jurisdiction of choice for ILS funds, collateralised reinsurance and the fastest growing domicile for catastrophe bond issuance,” the release states.
