This year we should all give thanks

20 October, 2014

Dear Sir,

Complacency can be a pretty bad thing.

Far too often, we take the blessings of life for granted.

But I think wrestling with Gonzalo has spoken to the hearts of many Bermudians. From reports I’m hearing, people are thanking and praising God for His mercy and grace in getting everyone through the storm, safe and sound.

So, I think it’s a good time to celebrate.

Thanksgiving is coming up, and although it’s not “technically” a holiday on the island, many Bermudians actually do celebrate it.

This year, though, let’s all celebrate it!

It can be sort of a combination Thanksgiving and Goodbye Gonzalo party, all rolled-up in one.

I’m not suggesting that all businesses close necessarily, or that Parliament enacts new legislation “legalising” Thanksgiving, but just that everyone plan to have dinner with family and friends that Thursday evening, and together, take time to thank God for his blessing, not just through Gonzalo, but throughout the whole year.

And don’t forget to tell your loved ones that you love them – and do it every day.
