Drivers urged to use caution in City

The Corporation of Hamilton has urged drivers and pedestrians to ‘use caution’ in the city as they continue working to restore several traffic lights.

City workers have focused on restoring areas that help the flow of traffic throughout the city after Hurricane Gonzalo hit the island last Friday.

But work continues at the junction of Church Street and Burnaby Street, Victoria and Court Street, the pedestrian crossing on Queen Street and two pedestrian crossings on Church Street.

A statement released this evening said: “Until full service is restored we ask that motorists reduce their speed and stop at all pedestrian crossings when pedestrian have indicated they are going to cross the road.

“Additionally we ask that motorists treat all intersections without operational traffic lights as four way stops. This means the first vehicle to come to a complete stop at the stop line has the right of way.

“The Corporation of Hamilton is working diligently on the present issues and will update the public once the traffic lights system has returned to full service.”

Service or partial service has been restored to traffic lights at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Dundonald Street, the Spurling Hill junction of Church Street and Par-la-Ville Road, and the junctions of Front Street, Pitts Bay Road, Bermudiana Road and Par-la-Ville Road.
