Gonzalo trick worked a treat

Scarily big: Robin-Valana Pearmen and Thomas Cechini, both seven, tackle pumpkins at the pumpkin patch in Astwood Park. See more pictures from the pumpkin patch on page 4

Youngsters got the chance to pick their own Halloween pumpkin down at Astwood Park yesterday.

A field full of around 600 pumpkins had been saved from Hurricane Gonzalo by Junior Hill and his workers who carried out an early harvest. The pumpkins were laid out again in the field so that children from Somersfield and Kiddie Academy could get in the spirit of Halloween.

Mr Hill’s wife Patty, said: “It was a good harvest this year. And we had one especially big pumpkin that we are asking people to pay a dollar to guess the weight off. All of the money we raise through this will go to WindReach.

“We still have plenty of pumpkins in the field so would urge people to come on down to Astwood Park today.”

The J & J pumpkin field at Astwood Park is open today between 9am and 5pm.
