A touch of the wartime spirit, God bless Bermuda

October 14, 2014

Dear Sir,

As old as I am, and having nursed as a young girl all through the war in London, I never thought I would experience the feeling of awe and even privilege again to see, receive, and experience the extraordinary behaviour of the British people during that dangerous time.

Kindness and caring was the order of the day and nobody cared about their diamonds when all you heard was “Do you need a place to stay? Come with us. Have you got blankets? Would you like some hot soup? What can I do to help?”

Help beyond all expectations.

But here I am again, never realising I was surrounded with such activity of giving by dear true friends, neighbours and strangers. Wonderful Bermudian human beings, all behaving like God intended us to behave. A storm that took as all by surprise.

That wonderful feeling of privilege to watch and feel again what I felt so long ago. Bermudians at their very best. Gone was the ugly.

My dear paperman Mr Harris delivering my paper at dawn on Monday just as if nothing had happened. God bless you Mr Paperman. God bless Bermuda.
