An underground solution

October 23, 2014

Dear Sir

I fully appreciate that it is both expensive and it can be more difficult to maintain underground wires and that’s why I’d never suggest a wholesale underground system. Having said that, it might be a good idea if those people who find that they are in very vulnerable sites with regard to long-term power loss were to approach Belco with a suggestion that those ‘off the beaten path’ lines be put underground.

I’ve heard so many stories and the mere fact that people have been without power for two weeks leads me to think that something could be done. As it is, the vast majority were up and running in a few days. The small minority who have been out the longest are clearly on side roads where the numbers do not warrant immediate action. Seems like a programme of putting these minor lines underground and connecting them to main lines would be costly but cost effective and would give peace of mind for the future.
