Premier is not a weatherman

October 23, 2014

Dear Sir,

Re: the innuendos and criticism of Premier Mr Michael Dunkley.

It is very obvious that those who criticised the Premier were lacking in common sense.

Not one of the weather services both here or abroad forecasted Fay’s sudden unpredicted change in strength, so why should the Premier? He is not a weatherman and should not be required to call out the EMO for every tropical storm that approaches the Island.

Changing the subject, I would like to praise all the emergency services for the excellent work they are carrying out in the wake of Fay and Gonzalo. We also are very fortunate the Royal Navy ship Argyll came to assist, with use of their helicopter and manpower, and also that Belco received additional assistance from overseas linemen.

Finally, I would remind your reader when a previous Premier, namely Dr Ewart Brown, refused the offer of such assistance by the Royal Navy.
