Cruise passenger critical

A critically ill cruise passenger has been brought into Bermuda for treatment.

The 69-year-old man was travelling on board the Nieuw Amsterdam when the cruise liner was forced to divert into Five Fathom Hole off St David’s on Thursday night.

The man was transferred to the pilot boat, St David, before being brought ashore into Penno’s Wharf at 11:25pm.

He was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment and has since been airlifted off the Island.

The Nieuw Amsterdam, which had originated in the Azores, continued on to Fort Lauderdale in the early hours of Friday morning.
