Pledge: Acting Detective Chief Inspector Dave Greenidge with Acting Assistant Commissioner James Howard

“We are coming for you.”

That is the stark warning from police to those responsible for a shooting outside Somerset Cricket Club that left four men in hospital with gunshot wounds.

Acting Assistant Commissioner James Howard told a press conference he was “outraged’” by Tuesday’s two shootings in Devonshire and Sandys and he urged the community to speak up if they knew anything about either incident.

Detectives yesterday confirmed that one of the injured men had been released from hospital, but no arrests had been made.

“Firing bullets into groups of people shows a reckless disregard for life,” Mr Howard said. “Outrage is the appropriate reaction to such despicable crimes. Those who know something should say something.

“It is just a few offenders that present a threat to us all.

“The police will use every lawful power to bring these offenders to justice to prevent this from escalating. We will disrupt those few that are hell-bent on this kind of behaviour.

“We can not allow people to shoot one day and walk among us the next.”

Mr Howard revealed that there would be an “influx of officers” into the communities affected by the latest spate of gun crime, where they will gather evidence and reassure the public.

At 4.40pm on Tuesday a firearm was discharged outside the National Sports Stadium on Roberts Avenue after a football match, although no one was injured.

Two hours later, at 6.55pm, a gunman opened fire on a group of men who were sitting outside the front of Somerset Cricket Club.

Four men were rushed to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate whether the two incidents are linked

Acting Detective Chief Inspector, Dave Greenidge, confirmed that one of the injured men has been discharged from hospital while three remained at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“No arrests have been made at this time,” he said. “Both of these incidents will be professionally investigated to establish who committed these acts and we will put these people before the courts.”

Witnesses or anyone with any information should contact the main police number at 295-0011, or the Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
