The Botanical Gardens and Arboretum have been reopened after extensive clear-up of hurricane damage.

Shelly Bay Park and playground, Parsons Road Park and playground, Warwick Long Bay playground, Astwood Park, Elbow Beach and the South Shore beaches are also open to the public, the Department of Parks said.

Most major clearing work at roadsides and schools has been completed, a spokesman said, and crews have been assigned to clear any remaining debris from primary and secondary roadways.

“Work this week will continue at the Railway Trail, Crow Lane Park and community garden, Clearwater Beach and Fort Scaur,” the spokesman said.

“The Department of Parks’ landscape crews are working diligently to ensure that parklands can be safely accessed by the public and our visitors as soon as possible.”

Weekly updates on progress will be issued.

The Department added that while it had dedicated a “significant amount” of its resources to post-storm recovery, it was working to carry out regularly scheduled maintenance at parks, schools and Government properties, which had been slowed by the clean-up efforts.

“The Department of Parks apologises for the inconvenience and thanks the public for their patience, understanding and support as we restore the Bermuda National Parks to their former beauty,” the spokesman said.
