Man jailed for St George’s assault

A man has been jailed for six months for assaulting his ex-girlfriend’s new partner.

Antoine Mouchette, 49, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to inflicting grievous bodily harm on Thomas Hilverding in St George’s on November 8.

He lashed out after seeing the victim with his former partner, and accused him of being involved in their break-up.

Mouchette saw the pair together in the RAA Club at about 8pm and they exchanged words. He later saw them again in the East End Mini Yacht Club, where Mouchette swept Mr Hilverding off his feet by kicking him.

He then began kicking him about his body and head, causing cuts to his head, bruising to his face and a broken tooth.

Bystanders stopped the attack and Mr Hilverding was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Mouchette told the court he was “in the wrong place at the wrong time, things got out of hand”.

“I’m sorry about that,” he added.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo noted Mouchette had previous convictions for making threats and public order offences.

“This is some serious bodily injuries, an unprovoked attack,” Mr Tokunbo said. “This was uncalled for, it calls for an immediate custodial sentence.

“This kind of behaviour cannot be condoned.” Mr Tokunbo sentenced Mouchette to serve six months in prison.
