Butterfield customers encounter online problems

No entry: The message which greeted some Butterfield customers who tried to access their accounts online yesterday

Some Butterfield Bank customers were unable to access their accounts online yesterday.

After customers log in, there have been reports that a proportion of the attempts were met with the following message: “The Butterfield Online Banking access has been temporarily disabled. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

A Butterfield spokesman said yesterday afternoon: “We are aware that some users are currently receiving a ‘temporarily disabled’ message when trying to log into Butterfield Online.

“Our information technology team is working to correct the problem as quickly as possible. We regret any convenience this issue has caused for our customers.

“At this time, I don’t have an estimate of the number of users impacted. It appears that only some users are receiving the error message, whilst others are able to login successfully. The problem appears to have begun around 3pm (yesterday).

“We are working to resolve it as quickly as possible.”

At 5.30pm yesterday evening, problems accessing accounts were still being encountered by customers.
