Discount extension welcomed

Members of Parliament on both sides have welcomed the extension by selected supermarkets of their 10 per cent discount days until February and urged them to extend the favour further until the end of the 2015.

Speaking during the Reply to the Throne Speech, Nandi Outbridge, the One Bermuda Alliance MP, said the discounts were the right thing for “Mr and Mrs Bermuda” and recalled how her grandmother used to tell her, “half a loaf of bread is better than no loaf of bread”.

Zane DeSilva, the Shadow Minister for Tourism, also welcomed the suggestion but questioned whether the OBA had subjected the participating grocers to any kind of regulation to provide proof that the customer is actually getting a 10 per cent discount.

In last year’s Throne Speech, it was announced that MarketPlace, Lindo’s and the Supermart would offer the discount on Wednesdays, thus doubling their previous midweek discount.
