Gordon-Pamplin’s Gonzalo bill cost $765

Patricia Gordon-Pamplin

Post-hurricane repairs on Public Works Minister Patricia Gordon-Pamplin’s house cost $765, but the bill was “settled in full”, the Senate was told.

Ms Gordon-Pamplin drew Opposition criticism after Public Works teams were seen fixing her storm-damaged roof. There were 42 private homes treated by Public Works teams in the wake of Hurricane Gonzalo last month and 121 homes repaired by teams co-ordinated through the assistance of the Bermuda Regiment. Plywood was issued by the Regiment without charge.

The details emerged from written answers by Junior Minister Lynne Woolridge to questions from Shadow Minister Diallo Rabain.

Senator Rabain said that he personally had no issue with the Minister getting help from Public Works.

“If you’re out there working for the betterment of the country, you don’t have time to look after your own place,” he said. “However, we need to look into a policy that governs that sort of behaviour. We can’t have Ministers being critical of previous Ministers for doing the same thing, and then doing it themselves.”
