Annual bazaar is all ready to go ahead

Set: The stalls are ready for the MSA Bazaar tomorrow and Saturday

The Mount Saint Agnes Academy Bazaar takes place tomorrow and Saturday, nearly a month after its scheduled date.

It has been a tumultuous, but rewarding journey for the Bazaar this year.

After initial construction of the wooden stalls, which can take several days to erect, Tropical Storm Fay presented the first in a series of challenges that would make the Bazaar committee seriously consider whether the fair would take place at all.

Successful reconstruction after Fay ended with news of Hurricane Gonzalo approaching. All stalls needed to be disassembled and stored. The doubt was mounting.

However, with one day to go before the Seusstacular event, the stalls are erected, painted and ready to provide two days of family fun to the community.

“It’s been an incredible effort by everyone,” said Jennifer Mahoney, Bazaar committee chairwoman. “I’m inspired by the way everyone has pulled together, especially the construction volunteers who have put in three times the normal amount of work due to the storms.”

It’s an entire community that’s responsible for making the Bazaar a success every year, according to one student, who said: “Every high school class is responsible for painting and then manning the stall, and nearly every parent gives a few hours of their time to assist.”

Estimates from last year’s Bazaar, Comic Life, put the estimated number of manpower hours to successfully coordinate the fair at upwards of 38,000 hours.

Despite the Bazaar occurring later than usual, it will feature all the joys of years gone by, such as the Superslide, Wheel of Fortune, face painting, cotton candy, and bingo — save for the main raffle.

“Unfortunately, we had to hold the draw last week,” said Mrs Mahoney, “but we will have another scaled down raffle this weekend, which will feature some great prizes, including a motorcycle.”

This year’s Bazaar will run from 10am to 10pm tomorrow and Saturday.
