Nikki Bascome, the professional Bermuda boxer, has hailed his ten-day training camp in Florida as a roaring success and said that he is confident of executing his game plan against Canadian Kru Joe Marchand-Tipping.

Bascome will make his professional home debut against Marchand-Tipping in a four-round junior middleweight bout at The Fairmont Southampton tomorrow night.

“Our motto for this fight is plan your work, work your plan,” Bascome said. “That’s our motto and you are going to see me work my plan on Friday. I’m relaxed, ready and just waiting for the day to come to go in there and do what I have do.”

Bascome, 24, who trains at Rego’s Gym in Warwick, has not fought since defeating American George Quintero in his professional debut in Florida in February.

During his recent training stint in the Sunshine State, Bascome ramped up his preparations by sparring with several high calibre boxers.

“The sparring was top of the line and I’m quite pleased with the way that everything went,” said Allan “Forty” Rego, Bascome’s trainer.

“Nikki trained with professional fighters down there and his sparring went really, really good. Training went perfectly and Nikki didn’t have a problem controlling his weight.

“We had no injuries and we did everything we needed to do and everybody that saw Nikki thinks he’s strong for that division. We are right on top of our game and it’s now just a matter of fine tuning in the lead up to the fight.”

Bascome, who enjoyed an undefeated ten-bout amateur career, added: “Everything went as planned in Florida and I was pleased with my training and sparring.

“You learn every day and this time I learned a lot,” he said. “I am learning and perfecting my craft each day and I feel I can still learn more and more.”

Bascome and Marchand -Tipping will meet on the undercard of Teresa Perozzi’s IBC world middleweight title defence against challenger Kali Reis, of Rhode Island.

Marchand-Tipping, who will make his boxing debut, is no stranger to the Island, having coached his wife, Shelby Marchand-Tipping, in her debut kickboxing win against Talia Iris at Teachers Rugby Fight Night XVI in April.

He is the owner and head instructor of Fifth Round Martial Arts and Training Academy in Stratford, Ontario, and boasts extensive professional experience in Muay Thai.

Also boxing on the undercard will be Chioke Tucker, Bascome’s stablemate at Rego’s Gym.

Tucker will be making his professional debut against Martello Jones in a four-round superheavyweight bout.

Jones, of Jamaica, trains at the same gym as Tipping-Marchand, the MAS Academy of Martial Arts, in Ontario.

Tickets can be purchased at the International Sports Shop, Beyond Fitness and PTIX.BM. Ringside tickets are $100 and general admission is $65.
