Rejected: Wind turbines, which have been put up without planning permission

Planners have rejected proposals to erect three wind turbines in St George’s after they were erected without permission.

The Development Applications Board (DAB) refused the applicants planning permission because the turbines could interfere with the safety operations of the airport.

The board said the applicant, Bedrock Limited, had shown “a blatant disregard for the planning process” by starting work without the appropriate approval.

They also pledged that “appropriate enforcement action” would be taken.

“The wind turbines have been erected already,” a spokeswoman for the Department of Planning said last night. “The application sought planning permission retroactively.

“The applicant has 21 days within which to appeal the Board’s decision.

“Thereafter, an enforcement notice may be prepared seeking removal of the wind turbines.”

The initial plans to erect three prefabricated wind turbines at 12B Ferry Road, St George’s were submitted in July 2012.

The proposals were then revised at the start of this year and resubmitted to the Planning Department.

However last week the DAB refused planning permission saying: “The retroactive wind turbines are located in the airport control area and are not permitted as they can interfere with safety operations of the airport.

“The Board wishes to express concern that the applicant has shown blatant disregard for the planning process in that development has commenced prior to planning approval.

“Additionally, the Board wishes to advise that the appropriate enforcement action to be taken.”

Bedrock Limited has 21 days to appeal against the decision of the DAB.
