A Smith’s man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman with disabilities.

The 72-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged in Magistrates’ Court this morning with having unlawful sexual intercourse with a woman with a mental impairment and with sexually assaulting the same woman.

Both incidents are said to have occurred between May 2012 and October 2014.

The defendant was not required to enter a plea because the charges must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released the defendant on $10,000 bail with a like surety, on the condition that he avoid all contact with the alleged victim. The matter is expected to return to the courts next month to be mentioned.
