Bill on medical cannabis tabled

A bill that could pave the way for the legalisation of medical marijuana has been tabled in the House of Assembly.

The Cannabinoid Pharmaceutical Products Bill 2014 would see amendments to the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1979, the Misuse of Drugs Act 1972 and the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1973. The amendments would see Dronabinol (Marinol), Nabilone (Cesamet) and Nabiximols (Savitex) made legally available to applicants on the recommendation of the Chief Medical Officer as well as, in some cases, the Pharmacy Council.
