BHS triumph in debate championships

Champions: The BHS squads from the National Debate Championships

The BHS Middle School team took the top three individual speaking awards at the National Debate Championships, while the senior team won first place overall, making BHS the 2014 National Debate Champions.

In the Middle School, debaters took turns proposing and opposing the motion, This House believes Feminism is obsolete. The BHS team of Sierra Brangman, Saxon Davis and Genevieve Lau made it to the finals, losing in a split decision.

Sierra Brangman, Charlotte Frumkin and Gisella Filice placed first, second and third respectively with Sophia Marsh placing fifth overall. Cerra Simmons rounded out the BHSA team.

In the Senior Division, the BHS team of Megan Sutcliffe, Namrata Bisht and William Campbell took home the Victoria Cox Memorial Trophy as the best overall team, after debating, This House believes that children have an obligation to look after their parents.

A second BHS team of Ashleigh Tomkins, Lillian Griffiths and Brianna Correia competed admirably in both the prepared and impromptu debate rounds. Megan Sutcliffe won the best impromptu debater and best overall individual debater awards and Brianna Correia placed third.

Special mention needs to be made to the coaches, Melissa Brough and Eve-Marie Aubert.
