West Pembroke defeated rivals Paget Primary 8-7 in a superb Bermuda School Sports Federation Primary Schools’ Netball Tournament final at Bernard Park.

West Pembroke beat Paget Primary soundly in last year’s final and again in the West Central Zone Qualifying Tournament earlier this year.

Paget, though, were clearly focused and up for the final and were keen to end West Pembroke’s recent dominance.

They jumped into an early lead and maintained it until the dying moments of the game when West Pembroke’s Elishae Smith scored from the final play of the match, sending the match into sudden-death overtime.

Paget won the toss and elected to take centre to start the overtime period — and they scored with their first phase of possession. But West Pembroke refused to be frazzled and hit back straight away with an equaliser before Samantha Knight stole the ball from Paget and Salayah Stange steadied herself to score the winning goal.

Smith led the way for West Pembroke with five goals, with Stange adding three. Paget boasted five from Sloae Dyer and two from Jezhari Talbot.

Both teams had reached the final after comfortable wins in their respective semis.

West Pembroke defeated Somerset Primary 8-3 with Stange scoring four, Smith three and Jade Johnston. Kemiyah Butterfield scored all three for Somerset Primary.

Paget, meanwhile, defeated East End Primary in the other last-four encounter 9-3. Dyer led Paget with five goals, while Talbot scored four. Jailyn Boddington scored two for East End, with T’aja Williams adding one.

In the Middle School Netball Tournament, TN Tatem Middle School comfortably defeated all their opponents en route to winning the title. Their dominance was complete after they comprehensively defeated Sandys Secondary Middle School 12-5 in the final.

Kaamilah Nasir led the scoring charts with ten goals. Anya Tucker, her team-mate, added two. Sandys were led by Delia Ebbin, who scored four, while Morgan Donawa added the other.

TN Tatem Middle School had defeated Whitney Institute Middle School 6-2 in the semi-final with Nasir leading the way with five goals and Tucker bagging one. Kyarjae Flood scored both for Whitney.

Sandys Secondary Middle School defeated Clearwater Middle School in the other semi-final. Just as in the final, Ebbin scored five goals with Donawa adding one.

Dejae Trott scored all three for Clearwater.

Berkeley Institute defeated all before them in winning the Senior Schools’ Netball Tournament.

Berkeley defeated Saltus 16-4, CedarBridge Academy 8-3, Warwick Academy 10-0, BHS Blue 10-1 and BHS Gold 7-2 in an all-conquering display.

Zariah Amory from Berkeley led the tournament scoring charts with 29 goals, while team-mate Nia Daley scored ten. Donnauri Robinson and Keizhari Knight both scored 21 for CedarBridge Academy and Zhanae Simmons racked up the same tally for Saltus Grammar.

Mount Saint Agnes ended Warwick Academy’s long-lasting stranglehold on the Middle School Boys’ Volleyball Championship, with a 25-18 victory in the final at Mount Saint Agnes.

Warwick jumped to an early 7-2 lead and looked to be on their way to their eighth-consecutive championship.

Mount Saint Agnes, though, had other ideas and launched a furious rally to even the match. Both teams then matched each other point for point until the latter stages when Mount Saint Agnes’s consistent serving took them ahead of a tiring Warwick team. They went on to score the final five points of the game, putting an end to any thoughts Warwick Academy might have had of a comeback. Warwick had defeated Saltus Grammar 25-11 in their semi-final, while MSA defeated TN Tatem Middle School II 25-14.
