Committee to look into sex offender registry

The members of a committee to investigate whether the Island should have a sex offender registry were announced at the House of Assembly this morning.

MPs Mark Pettingill, Suzann Holshouser, Craig Cannonier, Zane DeSilva and Kim Wilson will form the joint select committee. Senators Renee Ming and Lynne Woolridge will also be part of the committee.

Both political parties have come together in support of a committee to investigate how the Island should deal with sex offenders.

The motion, moved last month, by Mr DeSilva, the Progressive Labour Party MP, and amended by Pettingill, the One Bermuda Association backbencher, aimed to create a joint select committee to examine existing legislation surrounding the sex offender registry and other matters related to convicted sex offenders.
