Questions over DPP position

Rory Field

The Opposition has suggested that Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field is in a bid to retain his post, even as Attorney General Trevor Moniz protested that such details were not public.

The matter arose as Shadow Attorney General Michael Scott questioned Mr Moniz in Parliament. Mr Scott asked why Mr Field was an applicant in the process when “it was stated in 2007 that a Bermudian would succeed him”.

It was a point of controversy last December when Mr Field was appointed to another year, while the Bermudian candidate to succeed him was dropped.

“That process is ongoing and I have no idea who the applicants are,” Mr Moniz replied.

Mr Scott told MPs that Mr Field has presented for an interview “as recently as last month” — but the Attorney General said it was a confidential process that lay explicitly with the Governor.
