ICC Americas beat a Barbados under-23 Invitational side in the first Twenty20 match of their training camp in Barbados yesterday.

The Bermuda quartet of Onais Bascome, Christian Burgess, Tre Manders and Delray Rawlins all played their part in the 22-run victory at Desmond Haynes Oval.

Batting first in wet conditions ICC made 110 for seven in their alloted overs with Steven Taylor, the opening batsman, top scoring with 44 from 31 balls, Taylor hit two fours and three sixes in his innings.

Taylor and Manders, who scored 16 from 31 balls, shared a 53-run partnership at the top of the innings rescuing their side after the loss of Nitish Kumar in the second over.

The loss of Taylor shortly after left ICC Americas on 73 for three with seven overs remaining, and none of the other batsmen managed to make double figures. Bascome scored five runs from six balls, Burgess made nine runs from ten deliveries, while Rawlins did not bat.

In reply the Barbados innings got off to the worst possible start with Roshon Primus falling for a duck to Satsumranjit Dhindsa, the Canada bowler, who had him caught by Kushal Ganji. Dhindsa ripped the heart out of the Barbados side, removing four of the top five batsmen, conceding just 15 runs from his four overs.

Rawlins also got in on the act, bowling Justin Greaves for five to reduce Barbados to 25 for six in the ninth over. Burgess, meanwhile, had a good day behind the stumps, taking three catches, and completing a neat stumping to finally end the innings of Jermone Jones, who top-scored for Barbados with 32 from 34 balls.

Jones and Padmore, who scored an unbeaten 24, put on 48 runs for the seventh wicket, taking their side to within touching distance of victory, but once Jones was out with the score on 73 in 18th over, the run chase fell apart and Barbados ended their innings on 88 for seven.

“It was a little wet today, so it was a challenging wicket,” Tom Evans, the ICC Americas coach, said. “But our guys played well to adapt, and it was a good win.”

The ICC Americas team will play a 50 over game against Barbados under-19s today, with a recovery day, and light training session penciled in for tomorrow.
