Children present gifts to seniors

Season of giving: MSA students visit the Matilda Smith Williams Seniors’ Residence home

The residents at Matilda Smith-Williams Seniors’ Residence were delivered an early Christmas present from the Mount Saint Agnes Academy After School Programme students.

Students, aged five to 11, visited the Paget assisted-living home as part of an After School Programme field trip to deliver a large gift basket of toiletries, along with homemade cookies.

Perhaps the greatest gift of all, however, was the presence of the students, who unabashedly circled the living room and shook hands with the seniors, wishing them a Merry Christmas.

Grade 5 student, Ethan Lawler, also shared a beautifully-written short story about the birth of Jesus.

To conclude their visit, the students sang Christmas carols that they would be performing in this week’s Christmas Concert and Tableau.

Speaking of the outing, After School Programme coordinator, Joanne Chisnall, said: “It was a wonderful sight to see the children and seniors interacting so easily, and I’m sure it’s a visit everyone will remember for years to come.”

The visit was inspired by the students who decided that they wanted to put into action the “spirit of giving without a thought of getting”.
