Murray named regatta director for America’s Cup

A former America’s Cup skipper, Iain Murray, has been appointed regatta director for the 2017 America’s Cup.

Mr Murray will work in collaboration with the six registered teams that make up the Competitor Forum, and assist the commercial commissioner, Harvey Schiller, in drawing up the parameters for the Cup, which Bermuda is hosting.

He will nominate regatta officials for the measurement committee and umpires, as well as administering the regatta officials fund to a budget agreed upon by participants.

Mr Murray said he had seen a “strong spirit of cooperation” between the teams.

“We’re focused on getting ready for the first America’s Cup World Series events in the new foiling versions of the AC45s, as well as pulling together a measurement committee and finalising some details about the AC62,” he said.

“Everybody is contributing and the process is working well.”

The new regatta director has been active in his role since the start of the month.
