Swizzle tale goes international

Swizzle and the Smyths reunited at Gatwick Airport

The story of Swizzle the cat being reunited with his owners in England has made national news in the UK.

Earlier this month The Royal Gazette reported how Jon and Naomi Smyth were reunited with their lost kitten Swizzle 19 months after he went missing while they lived in Bermuda.

The story has now gone global and been reported by the UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Swizzle, who was found last month out at the airport living wild, was flown to the UK on December 12 and met by the Smyths.

“It’s been hard adjusting back to life in the UK and it’s nice to have a bit of our old life from Bermuda back with us,” said Mr Smyth. “It’s worked out really nicely, having him home in time for Christmas.”

Mrs Smyth added: “We were reunited at the animal reception centre at Gatwick. When the lady brought him to us at the front desk I was quite teary. He came out of his cage quite curious, and we had a cuddle.

“Being reunited with Swizzle was all down to the staff at Bermuda Veterinary Services who looked after him as their pet and sorted out all the paperwork and rabies inoculation. We’re really grateful.”

She added: “He’s just the same as he used to be — really mischievous. He’s already tried to climb up to the top of our Christmas tree and he still follows us around all the time like he used to.

“He slept loads when he first came back though — I think he was worn out and a bit jet lagged.”
