A Sandys man has been remanded into custody for more than three months after he denied assaulting another man when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Keino Lambert, 23, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Gregory Wright and causing him bodily harm on Christmas Day.

Prosecutor Susan Mulligan told the court that Mr Wright allegedly saw Mr Lambert arguing with a woman at a bus stop in Southampton and shouted that he should leave her alone.

Mr Wright then made to get off the bus to assist the woman but fell, and Mr Lambert allegedly began kicking and punching him, so that he feared for his life. Emergency medical technicians had to attend the scene.

Ms Mulligan said that Mr Lambert has several previous convictions for assault, causing bodily harm and assaulting police officers.

She added that he is on probation at present and is on bail for another matter. “Given his history, the Crown has concerns about him being released as he might reoffend,” she said.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Mr Lambert into custody and set a trial date for April 9.

• Also in Magistrates’ Court, a Warwick woman accused of fighting another woman on Front Street was discharged because the Crown offered no evidence against her.

At an earlier court appearance, Tiffany Trott, 27, had pleaded not guilty to the offence, which allegedly occurred on December 27.

The court heard that the Crown will proceed against Chanae Bascome, 24, of St George’s, who is charged with the same offence, and a trial date was set for July 13.
