Man remanded for alleged threats

A St George’s man charged with threatening a woman and her father while on probation for previous threats was remanded behind bars.

Geontai Minors, 23, denied charges of assaulting Andrea Warren and her father, Andre Warren, in an incident on November 2, but admitted wilfully damaging a vehicle owned by Mr Warren, causing $350 in damage to a side mirror.

Minors also denied a charge that on November 14, he threatened both of the complainants, who were set to appear in proceedings against him.

He allegedly called the complainants at their home, telling Ms Warren: “If your old man tries to proceed with the charges, just know that when I get out of jail, it’s on. He’s dead.”

The court also heard that Minors previously had been jailed for sending Ms Warren a series of threatening texts in November of 2012. In the messages, Minors said he would do “something f***ed up” to the complainant before warning her: “Don’t worry because girls get shot too nowadays, so watch out because you are a dead man.”

On that occasion, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. While he was released earlier last year, the court heard he was still on probation when the latest incidents are alleged to have occurred.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Minors into custody until January 28, when the matter will return to Magistrates’ Court so that a trial date can be set.
