Helping those who can’t speak for themselves

Chefanices Williams, 16, attends The Berkeley Institute. Chefanices approached Young Observer to help promote a book she has written called A Place Without Bullies.

What made you sit down to write A Place Without Bullies?

Bullying is a major issue that students encounter on a day-to-day basis. While a teacher may be able to help at school and tell a student to stop bullying, the problem is bullying also happens outside of the schools. I wrote A Place Without Bullies because I think someone has to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves. I hope the book will impact the lives of young people and start a chain reaction and make a difference.

How long did it take you to write A Place Without Bullies?

It took me roughly three months. I spent my summer holiday working on it.

When do you hope to publish A Place Without Bullies?

I hope to have A Place Without Bullies published in 2015. Bullies are always going to bully, be it lifetime relationships, school and the workplace. I hope to change the mindset of young people as soon as I can.

How do you plan to publish A Place Without Bullies?

I hope to publish the book with the help of the general public.

What age group is the book targeting?

The book targets seven year olds and up, because that is when I think bullying starts.

Have you ever been bullied?

Yes. I have been bullied many times. For example being called names; racist slurs; people laughing and teasing me because of the way I speak.
