A Sandys man has admitted assaulting a female lawyer as she left the Supreme Court.

Steve Bryant Symonds, 59, pleaded guilty yesterday to unlawfully assaulting Georgia Marshall and depriving her of liberty in an incident on August 28.

However, Symonds denied causing Mrs Marshall grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney asked for that charge to remain on file, but told the court it would be the end of the count “for practical purposes”.

Chief Justice Ian Kawaley remanded Symonds into custody until Monday morning, when the matter is set to return to Supreme Court to be mentioned.

Mrs Marshall, a leading specialist in family and matrimonial law and a director at Marshall Diel and Myers, was reportedly attacked by Symonds while leaving the Chambers of Puisne Judge Norma Wade-Miller. She suffered injuries to her face and was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Symonds was arrested on the day of the offence and has been in custody ever since.

Mrs Marshall was the One Bermuda Alliance’s candidate for November’s by-election in Sandys South, but lost to the Progressive Labour Party’s Jamahl Simmons.
