KeyTech boosts the BSX

KeyTech Ltd shares surged by more than 20 per cent last week to push The Royal Gazette / BSX Index higher.

The telecommunications bounced off its 52-week low of $3 to $3.70 on the trading of 63,600 shares. The 70-cent rise represented an increase of 23.3 per cent.

Fellow utility Ascendant Group Ltd, owner of electricity provider Belco, fared less well, sliding 15 cents, or 2.8 per cent, to close the week on $5.25 as 4,400 shares changed hands.

Nearly 300,000 shares of Butterfield Bank were traded, resulting in a one-cent fall in the stock to $1.99. Five of Butterfield’s eight per cent preference shares also traded, leaving the price 19 cents lower at $1,150.

The index closed the week 2.62 points, or 0.19 per cent higher, at 1,360.32.

Bermuda Stock Exchange trading volume for the week was 365,682 shares and turnover topped $856,000.
