Dillas tied in 46th

First round: Dillas

Jarryd Dillas shot a two-over-par 74 in the first round of the Latin American Amateur Championships yesterday.

Dillas is in a four-way tie for 46 at Pilar Golf Club in Argentina, after a round that included a double bogey, four bogeys and four birdies.

Fellow countrymen Fraser Hunt and Mark Phillips both finished at five over, although Phillips will be kicking himself after playing the final two holes at three over.

Phillips, who was three under after four holes in yesterday’s opening round, made double bogey on the par-four 9th and never really recovered. The Bermuda golfer had bogeys on 10 and 11, and a double bogey on 12 to slip to three over, until a birdie at the par-five 13th looked like limiting the damage. Then came the closing two holes, leaving Phillips and Hunt in a large group tied for 65.

Meanwhile, the draw for tomorrow’s first round of the Bacardi National Par 3 Championship has thrown up some interesting groupings.

Professional Camiko Smith and Jevon Roberts, a favourite for the amateur title, are paired together and will go out first at the Turtle Hill course. Daniel Augustus, the defending champion, is in a group alongside Dwayne Pearman, the Port Royal professional, who is likely to be one of his main challengers this weekend.
