Trio of events for mad March

Just champion: Mocklow

March looks like being a busy month for the Island’s golfers with the three biggest events of the sport’s year all taking place over the course of four weeks.

It begins with the Bermuda Match Play Championship at Mid Ocean Club between March 4 and 7, continues with the Bermuda Open at Port Royal between the 23rd and 26th and ends with the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship at Turtle Hill Golf Club, the 27th to 29th.

Anthony Mocklow, who won the Bacardi National Par 3 Championship last weekend, will lead the local contingent who have qualified to play in the event. He will be joined by Steven DeCosta, the men’s amateur champion, Ebonie Burgess, the women’s champion, while Ross Ballantyne, of Canada, earned his spot by winning the senior division.

The quartet will be joined by a host of international players, and organisers are expecting nearly 200 participants from more than 20 countries to take part in the tournament.

“Golf continues to be a key component of the overall strategic plan and value proposition of Bermuda,” Andrew Brooks, director of golf sales and marketing for the Bermuda Tourism Authority, said.

“The Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship is a perfect fit for Bermuda.

“The event plays host to an international field and players get a feel for the island and its hospitality while competing on one of the world’s finest par 3 courses.”
