Man and woman charged with 2010 shooting

A man and a woman were charged in Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning with attempted murder.

Damon Morris, 25, and Keitha Richardson, 31, were both charged with attempting to kill Earlston Bailey on September 17, 2010 in Paget, using a firearm to commit an indictable offence and shooting Mr Bailey with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Another man, 26-year-old Alanson Winfield Trott, was also listed in the charges. However, he did not appear in court and is believed to be in the UK.

Both Mr Trott and Mr Morris were further charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition on the same date as the shooting.

The defendants who did appear in court remained silent throughout the proceedings. They were not required to enter a plea because the charges must be heard by the Supreme Court.

The court heard that Mr Bailey was shot in the buttocks during the incident. He has since died in an unrelated road collision.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Ms Richardson on $25,000 bail with a like surety on the condition that she surrender her travel documents, report to Police three times a week and wear an electronic monitoring device once one becomes available.

However, Mr Tokunbo withheld bail for Mr Morris pending a full bail application, scheduled for next month, and issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr Trott.
