Cosmic moment at awards event

Praised: Bermuda design company Cosmic got an honourable mention at the Print & Packaging Design Awards in the US

A Bermuda design company has been honoured in an international competition.

Cosmic was awarded an honourable mention for its production of the Oil Casualty Insurance annual report for 2013.

Sean Collier, who founded the firm in 2002, said: “It’s rewarding to be competing on a global level and to be recognised at a global level.”

The firm picked up the award at the US-based Print & Packaging Design Awards, organised by Creativity International.

The competition attracted entries from more than 30 countries.

Mr Collier, who started the business as a sole operator after graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia in 1998.

He worked for other companies before one of his designs won the cover spot for the Bermuda Yellow Pages, which spurred him on to strike out on his own.

Since then, the firm, based of Woodlands Road in Pembroke, has expanded to a team of five.

Mr Collier said: “We’re really excited about this award as corporate communications is an important area of growth for us and annual report design is something we have been passionate about for many years.”

He added: “This award also builds on past awards in annual report design as well as awards for website design and development.

“We’re passionate about our clients and the work that we do.”

Mr Collier said the firm submitted entries for as many awards as possible — given the demands of the business and time constraints.

He added: “I work closely with my staff — we watch educational videos in house and push to deliver a global service in a global marketplace.”

The firm won silver in the same category of the Creativity International awards for its work on the 2007 Sovereign Risk Insurance annual report.
