A reality show filmed almost entirely during a cruise to Bermuda with hit 1980s and ‘90s boy band New Kids on the Block is now airing on US television.

Rock this Boat: The New Kids on the Block, produced by band member Donnie Wahlberg, was filmed almost entirely on board the Carnival liner Splendor as it sailed to the Island from New York with the band and about 3,000 fans.

Rather than focusing on the pop group itself, the series follows six groups of fans — known as “Blockheads” — hoping to meet with the singers, along with trio of Scotsmen who know nothing about the band but who are hoping to meet women on board.

The series will consist of nine half-hour episodes, the first of which aired this month on POP TV, formally the TV Guide Network.

The network’s website says: “For a die-hard Blockhead, it’s the vacation of a lifetime: a four-day cruise to Bermuda with New Kids on the Block, one of the hottest boy bands in music history.

“Follow along with some of the fiercest fans when the sold-out ship sets sail and their unforgettable journey begins: three sisters taking the family cruise they’ve always dreamed of, a group of single moms looking to get away from the daily grind, two BFFs in search of life-affirming good times after a health scare, and even a bride hoping to get hitched on the high seas with her favourite singers in the front row.”

New episodes of the show premiere on Wednesdays at 9pm locally.
