Codan launches graduate training scheme

A unique training programme to help Bermudians kick start a career in corporate administration has been launched.

The graduate scheme — run by Codan Services, which provides corporate backup to law firm Conyers Dill & Pearman — will offer training and guidance, as well as support through professional exams.

Head of Codan Services Justine Blakeney said: “This is a completely new programme that we are introducing and our hope is that we can contribute to the training of Bermudians who are keen to pursue a professional career, supported by achieving the internationally-recognised professional qualifications through the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

“Furthermore, this opens the door to a management career path with Conyers and the opportunity to be one of the one of our corporate leaders in the future.”

She added: “It is also the fundamental grounding and route into the Conyers management training programme, which is part of our talent management initiative.”

She added: “The role of a corporate administrator is a multifaceted one and one which plays a key role in supporting Conyers itself as well as the firm’s clients.”

The three-year programme, open to recent graduates or those soon to get their degrees, leads to accreditation with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Trainees will spend 12 to 18 months rotating between different projects and teams, then start their first position, mentored by a corporate manager and earning a full-time salary.

Successful completion will mean consideration by Codan for a permanent position, which will include opportunities in the Conyers management training programme.

Codan services include maintaining statutory records, advice on law changes affecting companies and implementation of decisions by shareholders and directors.

The firm works for a variety of international and local companies, covering insurance, funds, investment, shipping, asset management among others.

Codan will be holding an open house in the spring and summer for students interested in applying for the training scheme.
