BGA to send eight to Island Games

Silver medalist: Dillas

Bermuda Golf Association have set out their selection criteria for the Island Games this summer.

The BGA intend on taking four men and four women to the event in Jersey, which runs from June 27 to July 3.

Selection will be based on several different criteria, with order of merit ranking, and previous performance at the Island Games among those things taken into consideration.

The assocation will take order of merit position into account first, with players needing to be in the top four as of April 1, or have finished in the top four of the 2014 order of merit.

Winning next month’s Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championship at Mid Ocean Club will also merit consideration. In addition, the BGA Board of Directors will nominate one player to the provisional selection pool, as will the Bermuda Junior Golf Association.

Automatic selection to the team will be given to any player who meets three of the selection criteria, or any junior that is in the top four of the BGA order of merit come April 1.

Jarryd Dillas, was Bermuda’s best individual golfer when the Island hosted the games in 2013, winning silver in the men’s competition, and gold in the team event alongside George Campbell, Mark Phillips and Jevon Roberts.

On the women’s side, Ebonie Burgess finished sixth in the individual event, while the Bermuda women placed fifth with Burgess competing alongside Elizabeth Parsons, Katrin Burnie, and Ann Symonds.

The BGA will make their final team selection on April 6, and the full selection criteria is available on their website, bermudagolf.org

n Dwayne Pearman and Alan Bradshaw won the first event in the Bacardi sponsored Bermuda PGA Betterball Series on Monday.

The pair finished with a combined 12-under-par 42 at Turtle Hill Golf Club, with Cornell Bean and Phil Talbot second at five under.
