The Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) announced that it will be disposing of condemned equipment, including furniture and fixtures, in the coming weeks.

A BHB spokeswoman said yesterday afternoon: “Mindful of the need to cut costs, a thorough salvaging process was undertaken and wherever possible elements of machinery and pieces of equipment have been retained for replacement use in the future.

“Broken hospital beds, ice machines, furniture and fixtures are among the items that will be discarded. They have been deemed unsafe and condemned by technicians and manufacturers. BHB will dispose of all its condemned items in accordance with Government’s waste disposal policies.”

The spokeswoman added that with the move to the Acute Care Wing and the decommissioning of vacated areas in the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s General Wing, equipment and supplies will be put up for sale to the public in the coming weeks. BHB promised to notify the public of the date and details of the sale in due course.
