The sight of the Seabed Prince rumbling into Hamilton at the weekend might have been a new one to many, but the state-of-the-art vessel has actually been in Bermuda since January.

She is waiting on orders, and moved up to the city from St George’s to make way for the gravel ship, Nordenhav, that arrived in Penno’s Wharf yesterday.

The Seabed Prince is part of a fleet of ships run by Swire Seabed AS that are dispatched around the world to scour the ocean floors using cutting-edge technology.

In the past vessels have been called on to pluck treasure from the seabed as well as trawl the ocean for downed passenger aircraft.

The Seabed Prince and her highly trained crew arrived in Bermuda on January 11 from Halifax in Canada and berthed at Penno’s Wharf.

The vessel is equipped with a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) capable of descending to great depths and helping to salvage objects.

She left Penno’s on Saturday to make way for the Nordenhav, and after a brief foray to the east of the Island pulled into Pier 5/6 in Hamilton later in the day.

At present it is unclear how long the ship will remain in Hamilton as the crew are awaiting orders for their next job.
