I wonder if it isn’t too late to rethink the furlough day option for Government employees?

Now that we all understand, from the recent Budget, what a serious position we are in, I would think most Government workers would rather go “onwards and upwards together”, sharing in the sacrifice rather than having to watch some suffer layoffs, wage reductions or loss of health coverage.

As a civil servant, I would be more than willing to continue this option rather than find myself or my colleagues without a paycheck or insurance coverage at the end of the month. I would suggest, however, that the furlough option be applicable only to those earning over a set amount, which could be determined between Government and the union.

If our contribution could be considered as a supplement to the recent Budget, we could perhaps make a difference in getting our Bermuda back to the place we’d all like to see.
