Bermuda women make winning debut

A team representing the Bermuda branch of the Executive Women Golf Association have won the Invitational Highway Match Play Series Tournament in Florida.

Bermuda Rose beat Chip-In-Gales, from Daytona, Florida, by half a point at the tournament at Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Competing against 18 teams, consisting of eight-women per team, from around Florida, it was the first time that Bermuda had been invited to compete in the event The Bermuda team consisted of Katrin Burnie, Tracy Nash, Elizabeth Carpio, Betty-Ann Sudbury, Wendy Salvia, Cindy Hardart, Joanne Bielby and Thalia Lightbourne. They finished with 89 points, with Chip-In-Gales narrowly behind on 88½.

Two other Bermuda golfers, Anne Marie deGraft-Johnson and Victoria Cunningham competed alongside six other women from Orlando, in a Bermuda Gold team, and they finished sixth overall.
